Barlonyo Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI), built by Danier Leather, Canada, was opened on July 26, 2010 for 85 students…but has grown to an enrollment of 236 students in its very first year! There are 173 male students and 63 female students, ages 18 to 30, learning carpentry, bricklaying, and tailoring.
By February, 2012 all 4 school Income Generating Activities were in full operation. Solomon Adiyo, the dedicated Director of BTVI reports that 500 chicks are enjoying their new poultry house, 20 piglets have moved into the new piggery, the 4 oxen resting after harvesting the first sesame and ground nuts crops and 140 of the 300 tilapia in the 2 fish ponds have been harvested. BTVI is on the path to self-sufficiency!
